Kumbh Mela Festival

The pigs are in Allahabad at last to witness a portion of the Kumbh Mela Festival. From now until early March, over 75 million people will come to this sandy river bed where 3 rivers including the Ganga (Ganges) converge. Here the Sadhus, Gurus, Brahmin, and people of all faiths will come to bathe at this holy site in order to stop the cycle of life, wash away all sins and make their journey straight to Nirvana.

Everyone here is a seeker. Every man, woman and child is looking for something even if they know not what it is. It is a spiritual place “where the gods are close, the benefits of worship generous, and one's vows more readily fulfilled.” The Sadhus having left their monasteries, mountains, and caves to attend, teach us that the light we seek comes from within ourselves and that we must love life and all that lives. The Kumbh thus becomes a festival, a celebration, a venue of shared knowledge for all those who visit this sacred site.
